This is the second lot we have sampled from winemaker Chris Bilbro, see http://winenightatez.blogspot.com/2011/12/old-vine-red.html for our notes on Lot 56 consumed November 2011. While each lot is different due to the winemaker creating the lot on his taste that time, we have really enjoyed both. Both dominated by Zinfandel with subtle differences in the complexity. Lot 56 had a more earthy flavor with hints of cherries that this lot, 53, did not replicate.

"Zinfandel-like," and noted for its balance, approachability, and
consistency. It is primarily comprised of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and
Carignane as well as smaller amounts of Cabernet and Syrah. Various
Italian varietals round out the blend.”
